China's Silk Road projects

Introduction

At present China is taking the lead in organizing large-scale infrastructure development around the world. A very large number of projects are planned or already in progress, which together can have a major impact on the physical economy of the nations involved and the world as a whole. China's "Silk Road Economic Belt" and "Maritime Silk Road" policy goes hand-in-hand with the establishment of a new financial structure, including not only new international development banks such as the BRIC bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, but also new payment mechanisms which point in the direction of an alternative monetary system.

This rubric will carry reports and analyses of these developments from the standpoint of physical economy.
